Course Objectives:

Module I:

​

Develop an Understanding of Major Event Planning: Gain comprehensive knowledge of the key principles, concepts, and considerations involved in planning or responding to major events from a law enforcement perspective. Understand the unique challenges and complexities associated with managing large-scale events.

 

Assess Risk and Threat Factors: Learn how to identify and assess potential risks and threat factors associated with major events. Understand the importance of conducting thorough risk assessments and implementing proactive measures to minimize risks, ensure public safety, and maintain law and order.

Crowd Management Techniques: Acquire the necessary skills and techniques to effectively manage crowds during major events. Learn strategies for crowd control, maintaining order, and preventing or responding to potential disturbances or public safety issues. Learn strategies for leveraging criminal intelligence gathering before and during the event.

 

Module II:

​

Coordinate Security Operations: Understand the importance of coordination and collaboration among various stakeholders involved in major event planning. Develop the ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with event organizers, fellow officers, emergency response teams, and other relevant agencies to ensure a cohesive and efficient security operation.

 

Learn Strategies to Implement Traffic and Access Control Measures: Learn how to develop and implement effective traffic management and access control plans for major events. Acquire knowledge of best practices for controlling vehicular and pedestrian traffic, securing event perimeters, working through dignitary staff concerns, and establishing appropriate entry and exit points.

Enhance Emergency Response Preparedness: Develop the skills necessary to respond effectively to emergencies and critical incidents that may arise during major events. Acquire knowledge of emergency response protocols, incident command systems, and crisis management strategies specific to event and emergency response settings.

 

Module III:

Ensure Legal Compliance: Review the legal and regulatory considerations relevant to major event planning. Review common legal frameworks, permits, licenses, and other legal concerns associated with hosting large-scale events. Develop a general understanding of the legal implications of security operations during major events.

 

Evaluate Event Security Measure Case Study: Develop the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of security measures implemented during prior national major events or emergency responses.

 

Learn how to gather feedback, assess outcomes, and make necessary adjustments for continuous improvement in event planning and security operations.

Major City Police Department Instructor  

Instructor Background: 

​

The instructor is an active law enforcement executive within the eight largest police agency in the country. He has served the Florida community for over 23 years as a police professional. He has risen through the ranks of his department and has worked and commanded units such as: Internal Affairs unit which consists of administrative, criminal and public corruption sections. His experiences have also included overseeing compliance for critical sections such as the training institute, employee wellness, cyber investigations sections as well as jail/police accountability operations. This instructor has commanded and coordinated major events such as Super Bowls and Formula 1 grand Prix races. He is routinely requested to teach and consult on matters of internal affairs investigations, discipline and accountability, criminal investigations, major events supervision and management, and leadership in the State of Florida as well as in other regions in the United States.
